Kolkata Police Commissioner Rajeev Kumar is facing interrogation by CBI over his alleged role in destroying evidence in the Saradha chit fund scam. He has reached Shillong and will be questioned in CBI office in the city. He is to be questioned by 3 CBI officials who came from Delhi for this interrogation.
Supreme Court had ordered Rajeev Kumar to appear before CBI for give answers to their questions. This is in link with Saradha chit fund scam. SC said that he will not be arrested. According to CBI, Rajeev Kumar was involved in destroying evidence in related to this scam. CBI told apex court that Rajeev had tampered call record evidence. The case was transferred to CBI in 2014 by Supreme Court.
It is to note that there were arrests of several lawmakers in relation to Bengal’s chit fund scam. However, there were no charge sheets in past 6 years. Now, questions are being raised on the timing of this interrogation. There have been raids by CBI people linked to opposition leaders. Mamata Banerjee claims that government is using CBI as a tool to create troubles for them. She had even called it political vendetta.

CBI had tried to interrogate Rajeev Kumar last week, but were stopped by Kolkata Police. At that time, Mamata Banerjee raised her voice against this.
